In 3rd grade students have been learning about matter. Today Mrs. K Sweet's class did an experiment from a website called Generation Genius. In the experiment, they mixed 2 spoonfuls of baking soda with 1 cup of water. Then they dipped a q-tip into the mixture and wrote a message on the paper. They let it dry for 10-15 minutes. To reveal the message they rubbed a blackberry over the paper and it reacted with the baking soda crystals that were dried on the paper.
The Science Behind the Experiment: After you write on the paper with the baking soda and water mixture, the water evaporates leaving trails of baking soda crystals. The purple pigment from the blackberry when rubbed across the paper reacts with the baking soda crystals, forming a new substance! Since a new substance is formed, this is a chemical change.

There will be an early release day on Thursday, October 24
Schools will release at 12:30
*Excludes RECHS*

Our Book Fair is coming! November 4th through the 11th will be our book fair week! Please find our Book Fair homepage at the link below.

Thank so much for your donations for the Hurricane Relief Drive! All items (more than 4,000 lbs of donations!!!) was delivered to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newland, NC this morning. We had two trucks and a trailer delivering supplies. They graciously accepted all items and already have plans in place to distribute the items. (Many areas that we contacted turned us away due to an over-abundance of donations. They aren't turning any away because they know this will be an ongoing problem for their community and they want all they can get for them.) They also came straight out of church and helped us unload! We will continue to collect and send items from our school for as long as necessary. Thank you again for your generosity!

Teachers’ Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of the role played by teachers all over the world. They dedicate their lives to making an impact on the way children learn and grow and turn into adults.

Happy National Custodian Day to our absolutely AMAZING custodial staff. They work so hard to make our school look wonderful!! They wear many hats and go above and beyond their normal duties to take care of students and staff. Thank you so much for all that you do!

Thank you RCSS Principals! We appreciate all you do for our students!
